Then she revealed what they intended to do with the beach house if the court ruled in their favor.
They intended to give Priscilla access.

The judge’s expression hardened.

The court also ruled in my favor on the counterclaim and ordered my parents to cover my legal expenses.
The house was officially mine.
Free from their demands.
Free from their attempt to turn my work into someone else’s entitlement.
My parents had walked into court believing that being my parents gave them a claim over my property.

Outside the courthouse, Jocelyn gave me a tired smile.

I laughed quietly.
