Part 4: The Boardroom Invaders
The headquarters of Ashford Global was a towering monolith of steel and glass that dominated the city skyline.
Inside the top-floor boardroom, the atmosphere was festive. Marcus Ashford, dressed in an incredibly expensive suit, was laughing loudly with a group of board members.
“To the future of Ashford Global!” Marcus announced, raising a glass of champagne. “In exactly forty-eight hours, the five-year waiting period for my late uncle’s trust expires. Since his fictitious ‘lost son’ never showed up, the courts will dissolve the trust and distribute the nine billion dollars directly to us!”
“Congratulations, Marcus,” one of the board members chuckled. “You finally got what you wanted. No more pretending to care about charity.”
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors of the boardroom were pushed open.
A young woman in a simple, off-the-rack blazer walked in, pushing a young man in a wheelchair. Noah sat tall, his posture dignified, wearing a neat suit that we had bought with the last of our savings just the day before. Behind them walked Arthur Vance, holding a thick leather briefcase.
Marcus’s smirk instantly vanished. “What is the meaning of this? Security! Who authorized these street beggars to enter my boardroom? And Arthur… why are you with them?”
Arthur stepped forward, his voice echoing with absolute authority. “Marcus, I am here in my capacity as the chief executor of Julian Ashford’s estate. And I would like to introduce you to the true heir to the Ashford dynasty.”
Arthur pointed to Noah. “This is Noah Ashford Kane. Julian’s biological son.”
The room fell into a stunned, suffocating silence.
Marcus stared at Noah, his face turning a hideous shade of purple. Then, he burst into a mocking, desperate laugh. “This cripple? You expect us to believe my uncle’s heir is a disabled kid from the slums? This is a pathetic scam! Get out of my office before I have you arrested for fraud!”
How will Noah prove his true identity to a room full of wolves, and what will be the final fate of the greedy Marcus? Find out in the final Part 5 below!
Part 5: The Heir’s True Worth
Noah did not flinch at Marcus’s cruel words. He had spent his entire life being looked down on, and he had learned long ago that a person’s true strength did not lie in their legs, but in their mind.
Noah calmly reached into his collar and pulled out the gold key. He placed it on the polished boardroom table with a soft, metallic clink.
“This key opens the private vault in Geneva, Marcus,” Noah said, his voice calm, steady, and incredibly powerful. “Inside, you will find the matched biometric DNA records my father registered before his death. Mr. Sterling, please project the verified lab results from yesterday’s test.”
Arthur nodded, plugging a tablet into the boardroom projector. Instantly, a certified court document appeared on the massive screen, showing a 99.9% biological match between Noah and Julian Ashford.
Marcus’s glass of champagne slipped from his hand, shattering on the marble floor. “No… no, this is impossible! My uncle would never leave his empire to… to someone like you!”
“My father left his empire to me because he knew exactly what kind of person you are, Marcus,” Noah said, leaning forward. “You view people as assets to be exploited. You thought my disability made me weak, just like your family thought twenty-six years ago. But my wife, Maya…” Noah looked at me, his eyes filled with endless love, “…she taught me that true wealth is found in loyalty, kindness, and resilience. Qualities you could never buy.”
Arthur stepped forward, handing a set of legal notices to Marcus and the board.
“Per the terms of Julian Ashford’s trust,” Arthur announced, “Noah Kane now holds ninety percent of the voting shares of Ashford Global. His first executive order is the immediate termination of Marcus Ashford from all positions within this company, effective immediately.”
Marcus fell back into his chair, breathing heavily, completely ruined. Security guards entered the room, firmly gripping Marcus by his arms and dragging him out of the boardroom as he screamed threats that no one was listening to anymore.
Noah turned his wheelchair to face the remaining board members, who immediately stood up and bowed their heads in deep respect.
“We have a lot of work to do,” Noah told them. “Beginning with restructuring our foundation to build accessible housing and medical clinics for the orphanages in this city.”
As the board members murmured their enthusiastic agreement, Noah reached out and took my hand, pulling me close.
We had started our lives with nothing but a shared room in a cold orphanage and a promise to survive together. Now, standing at the top of a nine-billion-dollar empire, we knew that our greatest fortune was the love that had kept us warm when we had nothing else.
Our story of struggle was finally over. Together, we had built our home.
